Strong shapes. Unforgettable flowers.
Bring a little of Georgia’s independent spirit into your Puglian garden. Sculptural leaves, bold flowers and fine grasses create a striking composition beside your terrace or entrance. Purple and white bring the spring display, followed by warm red-orange summer colour, with space around the planting allowing each shape to stand out.
I’m introducing the gardens one at a time, sharing each woman’s story and the garden she inspired. Each design is available to buy as a ready-made planting guide, so you can create it in your own garden.
Our fifth chapter is Georgia’s Sculptural Garden.

Sometimes a single flower is enough to make you stop and look.
Georgia O’Keeffe’s work reminds us to pay attention to what is already around us, the curve of a leaf, the colour of a flower, the shape of a stone or the way light settles across a garden. Her paintings give familiar things a stronger presence, bringing their forms close and allowing us to see them differently.
That way of looking is what drew me to create this garden. I wanted the planting to feel clear and confident, with each plant given enough space for its shape, colour and texture to be appreciated.
A blue-green focal plant anchors the composition. Purple and white flowers bring the spring display, followed by warm red-orange flowers and broad summer leaves. Fine grasses catch the light between the stronger forms, softening the planting without taking away from its structure.
This is a garden about noticing. It is made for the warmth and light of Puglia, with strong forms, living colour and space between the plants. A garden to enjoy from your terrace, and to see a little differently each time you pass.

Here, the garden begins at the edge of your terrace or entrance, where you can enjoy it every day. Sculptural leaves and bold flowers rise from pale gravel, with space between the planting allowing each shape to stand out against the warm stone.
A striking blue-green plant anchors the composition, reflecting Georgia’s fascination with the shapes found in nature. Purple and white flowers bring the spring display, followed by red-orange summer colour and broad leaves.
Fine grasses catch the light and soften the stronger forms, while views into the surrounding land give the garden room to breathe. The pleasure comes from noticing its changes, a flower opening, a shadow lengthening, or the evening light revealing a familiar shape in a different way.

The €250 digital guide provides an 8 × 4 metre planting plan using 24 plants from six plant types.
Choose a broadly level area with freely draining soil, access to fresh irrigation water and enough room to retain the full planting depth and spacing.
Inside the 16-page PDF you will find a numbered planting map, A3 planting and irrigation plans at 1:25, a nursery shopping sheet with plant quantities and suggested pot sizes, real plant photographs, step-by-step planting instructions, material suggestions, watering guidance, seasonal care and advice on buying your plants in Puglia.

Gold and shadow. A garden full of light.
Bring a little of Artemisia’s expressive spirit into your Puglian garden. Golden flowers and rich ruby-red blooms glow against deep evergreen foliage, creating a generous border beside your terrace, with an open view towards the land beyond.
Inspired by the colour and dramatic light of Artemisia Gentileschi’s paintings, this is a garden with warmth, depth and confidence.

Our sixth chapter is The Artemisia Garden.

Artemisia Gentileschi was an Italian Baroque painter born in Rome in 1593.
Trained by her father, Orazio, she built an independent career at a time when opportunities for women artists were limited. She joined Florence's Academy of the Arts of Drawing in 1616 and later ran a successful studio in Naples. Her work also took her to London.
Her paintings give women a commanding presence. Rich fabrics, strong colour and dramatic light draw the eye, bringing a remarkable sense of life to each scene.
In Artemisia's Self Portrait as Saint Catherine of Alexandria, golden fabric and a red gown emerge from a dark background. That combination gives this garden its starting point: gold for light, ruby red for warmth and evergreen foliage for depth.
A sweep of golden flowers leads diagonally through the border. Red flowers gather towards the front and return on one side, while white blooms offer quieter points of brightness. Sculptural foliage gives the planting shape between flowering seasons.
This is my interpretation of the colour and atmosphere of her work, created for a sunny garden in Puglia.
For her garden in Gardens of Her, I wanted to bring that confidence into the planting. Warm gold and ruby red stand against deep green foliage, creating a border with richness and depth that belongs beside a Puglian home.

Beside your terrace or stone patio.
The Artemisia Garden is designed for a sunny border facing your main outdoor seating area, with room for the landscape to remain visible beyond. It needs a planting footprint 9 metres wide and 4.5 metres deep. Your existing paving, seating and access routes sit outside those dimensions.
Its curved front creates a softer meeting point between terrace and garden. Taller evergreen plants frame the back corners, while the centre allows an open view through the planting. No enclosing wall is needed.
Choose a position with freely draining soil and some shelter from harsh winds. The design includes irrigation guidance, and flowering changes through the seasons.

The €250 Artemisia Garden digital guide provides a complete planting design for a 9 × 4.5 m space, using 28 plants from five plant types.
Designed as a gently curved border beside your terrace, it combines rich colour and evergreen structure while keeping an open view towards the land beyond. Choose a sunny position with freely draining soil and allow the full planting space shown.
Inside the 16-page PDF you will find a numbered planting map, A3 planting and irrigation plans at 1:40, a nursery shopping sheet with plant quantities and suggested pot sizes, real plant photographs, step-by-step planting instructions, material suggestions, watering guidance, seasonal care and advice on buying your plants in Puglia.
